I’m listening to the Gillmor Gang go on about instant RSS and realize that we have what they want. They just don’t know it. feed2me is really cool for people who are working away from their computers and relying on phones and small mobile devices to survive.

feed2me is constantly scanning for the web for changes to blogs and any other data sources that offer an RSS feed. When changes occur it instantly sends the new post (or posts) to those who want the information. NO hassle. If you are using an iPhone, Blackberry or logging in from a public PC to check your email, then feed2me keeps you in touch.

My brother-in-law, Dan, is a big reader of blogs. However, if he is out-of-pocket for a few days, he can have several thousand feeds waiting to be read. But, not all blogs are created equal. Some are a little more useful than others and those are the ones that are the best candidates for feed2me. Now, when Dan is away for a few days, the key info pops up on his iPhone and the rest is still there waiting for him (to delete??).

Almost 6% of the kids in the United States suffer from a severe food allergy. Peanuts, milk, wheat or other foods that most of us take for granted can be life threatening to others. feed2me has recently added some feeds for people or parents dealing with these conditions.

  • Allergy Mom’s Blog - Blog from the popular site AllergyMoms, which provides support for parents of kids with food allergies.
  • Allergy News Blog - by Leslea M. Harmon.
  • Kids with Food Allergies - Stay informed with articles relating to Food Allergies from this popular website.
  • MedicineNet - Specialized articles on food allergies.

Look for these feeds under feed2me’s suggested feed list under the “Health” category.

Remember, if you’ve got other good sites like these to suggest, please visit the website and make the suggestion to our editors.

Getting information from feeds is sometimes like trying to drink from a firehose. Too much stuff, too little time. feed2me can help you with this with our keyword filtering or “clipping” capability. Simple attach some keywords to a feed and from then on, only those new feed entries containing those keywords will be sent your way. Look for this feature when editing your specific feed settings.

feed2me is designed for the “professional” feed reader as well as others who don’t even really know what an RSS feed is. To help these “amateur” feed readers get connected to some of the best of the web, feed2me features a suggested feed list that our editors maintain with numerous suggestions from users. Our suggested list is a great way to locate feeds for almost any profession.

It took a little doing, but feed2me now offers text to speech capability for blog posts. Some blog posts read better than others, but those that do sound just about like a news cast. We’ll soon add the capability to have a group of stories read at once. It will be like listening to the radio while you work.

Speech is only available while reading the news online. The size of the mp3’s make it a bit impractical to send to phones, but someday who knows.

Some of the feed2me family live by their phone 24 hours a day. When it goes off, something needs doing. So, for those who would like to get a little shut-eye when Engadget updates the rest of us on a new device, feed2me offers a sleep feature.

Found in account settings, any user can specify their “sleep” time during which all feeds are deferred.

One of the feed2me features that is growing in interest is the tagging feature. When users add a feed to the site, they have the opportunity (maybe obligation???) to tag a feed with their own set of words. These words then provide links back to the feed for other users.

More interestingly, users can subscribe to tag words and receive notification of any new feeds that match their subscribed tags. Personally, I’ve already used this feature to discover new sources of information that I didn’t know existed.

User’s of RIM’s BlackBerry often have a love hate relationship with their device. It’s great for getting email, but sometimes just not the best at receiving heavily formatted emails. With feed2me being a BlackBerry user no longer means having to sift news from between html links. feed2me can automatically reformat new items with minimal formatting that make them ideal to read on any member of the BlackBerry family.
